Paix Sur Terre, or “Peace on Earth,” began as the dream of Ryan and his wife, Nicole. They set out to create a portfolio of truly mineral-driven Mourvèdres along with small lots of Grenache, Syrah, and Mediterranean-style white wines known for their vibrant acidity and beautiful minerality. As Paix Sur Terre has grown and more people have come to love both the wines and the family behind them, Ryan now devotes his time entirely to the winery. Ryan and Nicole’s two young daughters are also becoming part of the story, often helping in the cellar and greeting guests in the tasting room.

We work with four exceptional westside Paso Robles vineyards, each selected for its distinct character and sense of place. Fruit is harvested with freshness in mind to highlight a balance of mouthwatering, savory, and mineral qualities. Ryan uses minimal oak, plenty of whole cluster, and a thoughtful, restrained approach in the cellar to craft site-specific wines that allow each vineyard to speak for itself.

Ryan Pease

Winemaker

Ryan Pease started out in the wine industry while attending college at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo. Looking for a part time job, he came across a posting for tasting room help at Linne Calodo in Paso Robles. At that point in his life, Ryan could often be found with a glass of wine by his side; it may have been obvious to some that wine would be his future.

While on a break from school at Cal Poly, Ryan took a fated trip to France, and it was there that he set his mind on making wine.

One night, he said, “I was sitting on the banks of the Rhône River in the same spot Van Gogh painted ‘A Starry Night’ watching the fireworks of the Bastille Day celebration.” He was sipping from a bottle of Domaine Tempier, and it was one of those moments you never forget. It all clicked for him, then and there.

Ryan went on to finish his finance degree at Cal Poly and spent an additional year getting his Wine and Viticulture minor.

After a couple harvests working with well-known Paso Robles wineries like Linne Calodo and Epoch and growing his love for winemaking all the while, Ryan decided to start Paix Sur Terre.

During this time, Ryan was promoted to winemaker at Grey Wolf Cellars, revitalized their wine program, and took it to heights that had not been achieved there previously. Afterwards, Ryan accepted the winemaking role at Brecon Estate before leaving to focus 100% on Paix Sur Terre.

Label Artist Jonathan Blythe

Jonathan Blythe is a mixed media artist/graphic designer based out of Oakland California. He has been making art his entire life and finds inspiration from the rhythms of the natural world and how it contrasts with the fast pace of modern society. Flora and fauna and their plight for survival consistently appear throughout his work and it resonates well with the seasonal process of growing grapes and making wine in the ever-changing climate of California and the world today. Each year is an exciting opportunity to present new artwork along with the creation of Ryan and Nicole’s wines. Ryan and Jon have been friends since childhood, and have been working together on the branding of Paix Sur Terre Wines since 2012.
